Windows 10 20H2: A very minor update

Windows 10 20H2Yet another new ‘version’ of Windows 10!

This time, they’re calling it 20H2 (as in 2nd half of 2020) instead of 2010 (as in October 2020).

I guess the old numbering scheme was getting a bit tiresome since 2004 and 2010 make it sound like the new Windows 10 is already over a decade old…

As with Win 10 1909, 20H2 isn’t really a “Feature Update” – it’s just a regular large update that doesn’t require a long ‘upgrade install’.

Just reboot, and you’re done.

So what’s new??

Windows 10 2004 Update: More new stuff, and more of the same

Windows 10 2004 UpgradeWindows 10 2004, called the Windows 10 May Update, was released eons ago.

Despite the fact that this version was tested for ages, it still managed to cause various headaches for many users.

That’s why you probably don’t have it yet – but you will soon!

So, what’s new?  What about all the Usual Stuff?

Let’s take a look…

Windows 10 1909 Update: What’s new this time?

Windows 10 1909 UpdateYet another new version of Windows 10!

A new update to Windows 10 was released just a few days ago, and once again the rollout was quite smooth.

The difference this time was that 1909 isn’t really a “Feature Update”.

It installs very quickly and changes… well, pretty much nothing!

Let’s take a quick look.

Resize images in Windows 10 the super-easy way

ImageResizerYou may have read my 2013 post entitled How to Easily Resize Images in Windows.

Thanks to a comment from a reader the other day (you rock, Nick!), you don’t need Windows Live Photo Gallery anymore.

There’s a free tool available from a Microsoft engineer that you can grab and make your life WAAAY easier.

You can even resize multiple images at once anywhere on your puter – in just a few clicks and without firing up any application!

Windows 10 1903 Update: What’s New?

Another new version of Windows 10!

A new update to Windows 10 was released a few weeks back, and this time the roll-out seemed to be way smoother than the last version – which is nice.

I got the update fairly quickly this time around, which almost never happens.

The update went off without a hitch. Naturally, I immediately started poking around to see what changed.

Well, not much… But as usual, there are a few things to re-tweak!

Jack up your Windows audio with Voicemeeter

If you’ve ever tried to do any kind of serious audio processing on a Windows puter, you know just how crappy the basic Win audio mixer and controls are.

Want to connect a digital mixer via USB to your puter? Good luck getting your recording software to work properly with both audio in and out.

Want to route audio from one app to another, like from recording software to Skype? Good luck with that, too.

Fortunately, a buddy of mine recently introduced me to a fabulous range of (free) software that turbocharges Windows audio.

Did I mention it’s free?

The #1 piece of computer advice that no one ever takes

Well, okay, that’s not entirely correct.

It would be more accurate to say it’s the #1 piece of advice that no one ever remembers to take – at the right time.

I’m talking, of course, about the Almighty Restart.

But I don’t just mean rebooting Windows…

Or linux, or Android, or macOS, or whatever…

Windows 10 1809 Update: What you need to know

Windows 10 1809 Update - What you need to know

It’s that time again!

A new update to Windows 10 was re-released a few weeks back, and it appears that it’s FINALLY rolling out to end users.

You may have heard that this update was the October 2018 update. It was, but then there were “a few problems” like people’s files disappearing.

I finally got the update on my desktop and lappy, and I’m happy to report zero problems.

It seems this bad boy is finally ready for prime time. So, what’s new in the features and privacy departments??

Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803: What you need to know

The Windows 10 “April 2018 Update” version 1803 was released a few weeks ago… in May, not April.

Go figure.

Initially, there were some serious problems with 1803, but those seem to have been ironed out now.

Chances are, if you don’t have it already, you’ll be getting it soon.

Given my past articles on improving the privacy and security of Windows 10, what do you need to know about this new 1803 version of Windows 10?
